RIP: Lena Horne

“She was ageless.

… tempered like steel,

baked like clay,

annealed like glass;

life has

chiseled,

burnished,

refined her.”

  1. RIP. A beautiful image of an extraordinary woman.

  2. I don’t know where you find what appear to be the most beautiful photos and quotes to go with them but you are are always on the mark. This is a great photograph of her. I like that it’s a recent photo and not one from her youth.

  3. Lovely tribute for an amazing lady. I wish I had just half her courage and grace.

  4. that she was, what a wonderful quote for Lena. pgt

  5. I had a chance to catch a glimpse of Ms. Horne in the flesh at a reception in New York about twenty years ago. With that smile, she just lit up the room. Some people just have “it”. She certainly did. RIP, Lena.

    • John,

      Glad you dropped in. I’ve been imagining you in this most favored of seasons in Paris with longing and envy.

      Lena was extraordinary in so many ways. Truly one of a kind.

  6. Dear EA,

    I wish this were the “most favored of seasons in Paris” right now. It’s freezing, I’m wearing a cashmere sweater! It’s absurd! Ah, mais c’est toujours Paris…..

  7. Fantastic photo of her. That woman really had a light inside of her.
