Meow to the Moon

A charming 1995 short animation by Portuguese artist Pedro Serrazina. It tells the story of a lonely, but industrious, cat with an impossible dream: he’s in love with the moon. For years he tries to reach her, to no avail. Undaunted, he makes one last attempt to claim her his own, setting up house in the hope she’ll agree to move in. But alas, the moon has a mind of her own. Finally, heartbroken, he gives up and simply resigns himself to waiting every night for the rest of his life, if necessary, for her to show herself in the sky and make known her intentions. But she is the moon, after all, mysterious, mercurial, and indescribably thrilling. Wonderfully narrated in seductive French to the forlorn sounds of a harmonica.
