The Passions of Provence

ProvenceHero2_a_1

The good people at Indagare’s next generation of travel wisdom have readers navigating through France’s most mythical region, which stretches along the Mediterranean coast and into the countryside famously celebrated by writer Peter Mayle in A Year in Provence.

The most uninformed of travelers will discover the sheer effortlessness of plotting and planning the perfect stay from Getting There to Getting Around under Strategies, or investigate authentic boutique properties on the coast and in the country under Where to Stay. And don’t even think of traipsing to the cuisine capital of the world without choosing in advance Where to Eat. For the flibbertigibbets out there and you know who you are there’s everything from cooking classes and best beaches under What to See & Do (I’m leaning toward the wine boot camp myself) to the toniest of shops in Cannes and St. Tropez under Where to Shop for all those souvenirs to placate the envious back home.

Indagare Top Ten:

SLEEP…in one of Provence’s special tree house hotels

EXPERIENCE…the region’s gorgeous countryside on a customized bike tour

SPLURGE…on a multi-course meal at La Bastide de Moustiers

EAT…with the locals at Cannes’ best-kept secret Le Pastis

DRINK…local vintages and learn about their production at Chêne Bleu

SAVOR…a treatment at the L’Occitane spa at newcomer Le Couvent des Minimes

VISIT…the region’s most scenic villages

SEE…the coastline from the water by renting a boat

SHOP…in Cannes and St. Tropez

KNOW…the Lay of the Land

  1. A few years ago, my son went on a music study program in Vaison la Romaine in the Provence area and brought back lavender everything: soaps, towels, potpourri, postcards, pictures… I made a note to myself, that’s one place I must visit… some day. And Cannes, of course, that will be my dream trip, to see the Film Festival and soak in the atmosphere. Thanks for posting!

  2. A friend rents a house, excuse me, a villa, that comes with a live-in chef. The rental’s for a month, all friends are welcome to come by for a few days or a week or two. Now THAT my friends is the Happiest Place on Earth.
