Let Them Eat Caviar

An item so unabashedly pure and generous in this season of giving, one would think it came out of Hollywood’s revered dream factory. Not so dear reader. The most divine and rare delicacy in the world – Beluga caviar – is to be distributed this holiday season to the poor people in Milan as a Christmas gift. It’s enough to bring a tear to the eye of the most hardened cynic.

This unimagined gesture of humanity came about after Italian customs officials seized about 88 pounds of caviar from smugglers trying to sneak it in from Poland. The loot—worth over half a million dollars—is going to be making a lot of the needy very happy indeed this year. Warms the cockles of the heart, no?
